Barbara Anastasion

Barbara Anastasion teaches clarinet at OPUS (as well as occasional other wind instruments).

She is a 22 year veteran instrumental music teacher in Carroll County Public Schools, Maryland. She currently teaches middle school band and orchestra. Previously, she taught elementary band and orchestra (4th and 5th grades) for 20+ years, as well as Kindergarten vocal/general music and 3rd-5th grade vocal/general music. She has taught private lessons since 2000 in Harford, Baltimore, and Carroll Counties. Barbara began playing the clarinet in 4th grade. She received a BA in Music from Towson University, having studied under Ed Palanker, Dan Silver, and Chris Wolfe. She received her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2008.

Barbara is also a twice-certified National Board Certified music educator. She is an alumni member of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity. Barbara is actively involved at the state level of music education, specifically with the MBDA (Maryland Band Directors Association), and is also highly involved with music activities in CCPS at the county level. She also adjudicates for State Solo and Ensemble Festival.

Barbara directs the handbell choir and children's choir at her church. She has a high school aged daughter who is a violinist and an elementary aged son who is a pianist. Both take lessons at OPUS.

Barbara is also the Student Coordinator for OPUS, and takes on many other OPUS duties as well.
