Tony Scaltz

Tony has been a guitarist and teacher for almost 40 years. As a practitioner since age 8, he has studied with professional session players in a wide array of styles and techniques.

In 1993, he won third place (1st place in Guitar) in Berklee College of Music’s International Talent Contest, receiving a scholarship and subsequently attending Berklee in 1994. He then worked as a prolific session player and touring musician until late 2004, when he attended the Pennsylvania State University to study Theory and Composition under renowned composer Paul Barsom. He graduated from Penn State in 2008 with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Music Education.

Tony has owned and operated a number of private teaching studios since 1997, working as a guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, related strings and theory/composition instructor in three states. Some of his students have gone on to attend the Berklee College of Music, Full Sail University, Penn State University, and Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles.

Presently, Tony is recording a new collection of guitar music and performing at local venues in promotion of the material. He is excited to work with the Opus community and help students to reach their musical goals.
